SO YOU WANT A

LONDON WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

I have been a busy London Wedding Photographer for over 10 years now and I have developed a style and approach that allows me to work both creatively and reactively (which I hope stands me apart from the more traditional wedding photographers) So I thought I would share some wisdom…

Firstly London is such a special place for so many couples. Arriving from all over the World seeking careers, education, dreams and opportunities London brings together people who quickly meet their own kind of people and share their adventures in this new and exciting City. And this is how so many of my couple meet so when they plan their wedding they want London to be at the centre of their plans.

Getting your Suburban family to meet and mix with your Shoreditch buddies in a cool London venue makes for the kind of dynamic that breaks the mould of “traditional” wedding photography. Or if you fancy binning the guest list then eloping at one of London’s iconic Town Halls and walking the busy streets hand in hand is an unforgettable way to say “I Do”

But with all this comes a few potential pitfalls and as much as I restrain from telling anybody how to plan their wedding day a few gentle suggestions may help you decide if a London Wedding is best for you. A kind of Fools Guide ( as in written by a fool..not for fools 😉 )

Top of that list of suggestions for a London Wedding Photographer is ensuring our couples receive images that celebrate that choice and truly make London the focus of their images. Stuff like this:

WHERE TO GET HITCHED IF PLANNING A MORE COMPACT DAY

The options are endless. For a perfect elopement my 3 favourite Town Halls in London are Islington TH, Hackney TH and MARYLEBONE TOWN HALL. And also consider Peckham’s Asylum Chapel for a stunning ceremony and drinks reception

LONDON WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY CHECKLIST

  • London traffic! (need I say more) Try and keep travel from prep to ceremony as SHORT as possible. If getting ready at home means a potential stressy 45min (plus) cab journey in hot weather and wedding dress then book a hotel as close to the ceremony venue as possible.
  • London weddings, as a rule, tend to be faster paced and have less “down time” especially if ceremony and reception are at different venues so trust your suppliers when it comes to timings and aim to pick caterers/florists/stylists and photographers who are used to working in central London.
  • Choose outfits that are practical. Think shorter or more comfortable dresses (or even trouser/play suits) And in the colder months a bridal leather or denim jacket works great to keep of the chill and match with the city vibe.
  • Give your out of town guests plenty of info on travel and accommodation (suggesting they also stay local to the wedding) and on the day delegate a contact to answer all the “silly” questions they may have.
  • Look for alternative and quirky supplier options that may only work within their London base and not solely at weddings. Think Street Food, Drag Queens, Circus performers and Mariachi bands. A London specific Wedding Planner like my buddies at THE WEDDING ARRANGERS will have a little black book of more unusual supplier options!
  • Consider dry hire venues as they are more readily available in London and give you complete freedom to design your whole day your own way (as well as making a free bar much more palatable )
  • Check how late your venue can allow guests to stay and avoid venues close to residential areas as they can be very strict on music and volume levels.
