Wedding Photography at The NED is a joy. The history, the light and texture mixed with the vibrancy of the surrounding streets make it PERFECT for my style and approach.
THE NED WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
The building that houses The Ned was originally constructed in the 1920s and 1930s as the headquarters of the Midland Bank. The building was designed by architect Sir Edwin “Ned” Lutyens, who was renowned for his work in the neo-Baroque style.
The Midland Bank building, with its grandiose architecture and imposing presence, became a symbol of the financial power and influence of the City of London. The interior of the building featured ornate marble columns, intricate woodwork, and stunning art deco detailing, reflecting the opulence and prestige of the banking institution.
However, as banking practices evolved and the financial industry changed, the Midland Bank eventually merged with HSBC, and the building ceased to serve as a banking headquarters. For several years, the building remained vacant, until a group of investors and hospitality professionals saw its potential for redevelopment into a luxury hotel and members’ club.
In 2012, plans were set in motion to transform the historic Midland Bank building into The Ned. The ambitious project aimed to preserve the building’s architectural heritage while creating a modern and vibrant destination for travelers, diners, and Londoners alike.
After extensive renovations and restoration work, The Ned opened its doors to the public in 2017. Today, it stands as a testament to both London’s rich architectural history and its dynamic hospitality industry, offering luxurious accommodations, multiple restaurants and bars, a spa, and event spaces, all within the magnificent setting of Sir Edwin Lutyens’ iconic building.
