DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Now thats a good questions! and I’m glad you asked. A Documentary Wedding Photographer (also called a candid or reportage photographer) works with couples who want an authentic and storytelling approach to the way their wedding day is captured, with no photographer intrusion and very limited, if any, staged images captured throughout the day.

Modern Documentary photography uses the speed and accuracy of professional camera systems and adds a creative eye producing honest, cleverly composed and memorable images that capture parts of the day that traditionally would be missed . Documentary Wedding Photography simply tell your story and allows the photographer to be creative and capture the energy, emotion and reality of your wedding day.

Its a phrase I have been using and a drum I have been banging for over 10 years now and I know my passion for more honest and creative wedding imagery is what all couples I work with relate to. So don’t overthink the label just have a read of my below checklist and take a look at the images on this page and ask yourselves “Is this how I want my images from my wedding day to look?” And if the answer is yes then BINGO! we made a connection and thats ultimately all that matters.

DO I NEED A DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?

We don’t want to spend time on our wedding day posing, being away from our guests or herding long lost relatives together for staged group shots.
We want every part of the day captured and want our final gallery to contain images of parts of the day we didn’t even know happened.
We value authenticity over traditional posed photography.
We value unique perspectives, composition, and the ability to capture fleeting moments in a creative and meaningful way.
We want to remember how we felt as well as how we looked.
We appreciate storytelling and narrative in photography and want our photographer to capture the smaller, intimate moments that make up the larger story of our wedding day.
We want to end the day bouncing around a dance floor with our mates AND we want images that capture the energy and happiness of the dance floor.
